The Role As Manager of Technical Writing, you'll lead our team and help them to describe the different Glia's components and how to integrate them with our client's enterprise core platform, increasing the quality of the product documentation to make the high-growth of Glia and its user base sustainable. Glia's Technical Writing Manager is responsible for leading a Technical writers team located in Estonia.
The location is Portugal, remote.
What you'll do 1. Team Leadership and Development Facilitating frequent and effective feedback.
Conducting regular 1:1 (one-on-one) meetings with each member of your team.
Assisting with operational concerns & questions, and being the first point of contact for all things Glia for the members of your team.
Understanding the long-term aspirations of each member of your team and helping them translate these into specific short- to mid-term goals.
Recognizing growth & performance and making cases for promotion.
Supporting team members with finding learning materials (books, courses); encouraging special interest and study groups, book clubs etc; coordinating conference attendance.
Being responsible for effective team dynamics, including trust, accountability, cooperation, etc.
Running activities for group support such as project celebration, retros, team lunches, vacation scheduling, team agreements and charters.
2. Hiring and Onboarding Running hiring cycles: defining job descriptions, conducting interviews; assessing final fit, and onboarding new members to the team.
3. Writing, Information Architecture and Process Improvement Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for enterprise customers and partners.
Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and developer guides.
Create tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications.
Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.
Create and maintain the information architecture.
Assist in writing and reading of patents.
Requirements 5+ years of experience as a technical writer.
2+ years in leading technical writers team.
Outstanding communication both verbally and in writing.
Ability to thrive in a self-motivated fast-paced, ambiguous, and rapidly changing environment.
Experience with OpenAPI and REST API in general.
Deep understanding of the software development life cycle and other engineering practices.
Interest and ability to learn new technologies from an end-user perspective via hands-on experimentation.
Good research and analytical skills to be able to gather, understand, and interpret new technically complex information.
Fluency in US English, with special attention to writing skills and grammar.
Bonus Previous experience in software and/or product development (e.g. as a system analyst, software engineer or QA).
Basic know-how on CSS and HTML, JSON, Markdown, Git, common Linux/macOS command-line tools.
