.Manager I, Engineering - Language Tools (Lisbon) Lisbon, Portugal The Language Tools team enables hundreds of Datadog backend engineers to build, test, and package secure, quality code. Our success is measured by their productivity and happiness. They use the tools that we develop and support several times a day; in dev and CI; in diverse Git repositories, from very large polyglot or monoglot repositories (monorepos, sic ) to smaller repositories scoped to services or libraries ("micro-repos"); and in various languages, including Go, Python, Java, Rust, and TypeScript. To orchestrate our builds, we use either Bazel or industry standard tools for the language, depending on the repository. As a manager on the team, you will take ownership of one of our areas of responsibility. The team is growing rapidly, not only following Datadog's growth but also taking over repositories and languages that were formerly managed by their users. As our first manager in Europe (we have individual contributors there already), you will represent us there. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. What You'll Do: Manage 4 to 7 mostly senior engineers, helping them to achieve our objectives and developing their careers. Contribute to the team effort by writing and reviewing both design documents and code. Connect with stakeholders at various levels in the Datadog engineering organization to understand the needs of developers. Make data-driven, risk-aware decisions to solve ambiguous problems and confirm results. The changes we make impact the velocity of hundreds of engineers. Engage with the open source community as needed. For example, influence and/or contribute to the Bazel roadmap or report issues with Go release candidates. Who You Are: A manager by choice. Our passionate engineers deserve a passionate manager. An expert in one or more of the languages or build systems listed above. A well-rounded engineer. You must broadly understand the various types of software projects that are built, tested, and packaged with our tools. A clear and empathetic communicator. Many people within the Datadog engineering organization are interested in what our team is doing. You must value their diverse opinions and synthesize plans from them. Ideally, you have experience working with a large codebase. Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply
