Offer Description In space applications, materials are subjected to severe environments with high flows (oxidation, materials, heat, etc.). Some monolithic ceramic materials have been identified for their ultra-refractory properties. These materials can be used to improve their behaviour, even to the point where parts can be reused. These materials are brittle, so the introduction of fibrous architectures would increase their toughness. The aim of this research is to analyse, understand and model the behaviour of these materials during applications such as atmospheric re-entry.
Responsibilities Develop ultra-refractory materials using various methods
Characterize materials with physicochemical and microstructural analyses
Conduct oxidation tests
Correlate images on samples characterized with large instruments from tomographies
Determine oxidation mechanisms after oxyacetylene torch and plasma torch tests
Compare results with literature
Participate in writing publications
Present work at progress meetings or conferences
