Name of the project: EAGER: pyroElectricAlly GEneRated electrons for chips-scale devices
Reference number: Ref. 2022.15666.UTA
Description: This project aims to develop pyroelectrically generated electron sources for chip-scale applications. The exploration of this novel miniature chip-scale device has a wide range of applications in semiconductor industries (vacuum systems) and residual gas sensing applications.
Scientific Area: Nanomaterials for new markets, thin-films
Description of the functions and key primary responsibilities:
Deposition of seed layers and pyroelectric thin-films, by sputtering;
Characterisation of different thin-films through XRD and SEM;
Laboratorial characterisation of current and electric field measurements as a function of temperature;
Experimental validation of the pyroelectric film as a chip scale electron source.
Specific Eligibility Conditions:
MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics Engineering, Material Science or other related field;
Background knowledge on deposition techniques;
Knowledge on material properties;
Report writing.
Applications that do not meet these conditions will not be considered.
Supervision: The work plan will be developed at the INL under the scientific guidance of Dr. Rui Pinto. The successful candidate will be integrated into the IMiNa - Integrated Micro and Nanotechnologies.
Selection Committee: The selection of candidates will be carried out by a Selection Committee consisting of Dr. Rui Pinto, Dr. Filipe Alves, Dr. José Fernandes, and Catarina Gomes - Human Resources.
Duration of the contract: The total duration of the employment contract shall be 5 months and may be renewed based on the performance of the individual. The expected starting date is November 2024.
