The SSF are running an ISA Adaptive Surfing Instructor Course in Thurso on the 5th and 6th of September. This is just before the Scottish Para Surf National Championships on the 7th and 8th (which is an opportunity for new coaches to gain hours towards their qualification).
The SSF is subsidising the course heavily so the cost to candidates is only £68.75 (with an expectation that those doing the course will volunteer at SSF para events or with some of our para surf affiliated charities to gain their hours for the accreditation).
This program is part of the ISA's ongoing effort to create a global platform for universal access to the sport and enable Para Surfers to achieve sporting excellence and inspire others. While the competitive element of Para Surfing is a rapidly growing aspect of the sport, the Adaptive Surf Instructor Program focuses on broader inclusion and grassroots development.
This program is complementary to the ISA Coaching and Instructing Program and accessible for surf instructors, surf schools, and Adaptive Surfing organizations worldwide.
There are no entry requirements for the course but different levels of qualification are possible. People who have both an instructor qualification and a beach lifeguard/water safety qualification receive a full Adaptive Instructor Qualification. People who do not have both of these get an Assistant Adaptive Instructor Qualification.
COURSE COMPETENCIES: All course participants must demonstrate competencies to their approved ISA Adaptive Surf Course Presenter in the following core areas to obtain certification:
Transfer Skills
Ability to Work in a Team
Ability to act safely and responsibly with adaptive surfing participants
Understanding of safeguarding and data protection requirements
