The department Road Network Planning & Engineering is looking for candidates in Portugal to strengthen our Processes & Systems team. The Industrial Engineer has specialist knowledge of the Road Network processes and systems. The team is responsible for design, development, optimization and standardization of Road Network systems and processes across the European region. This entails the transportation management systems and processes as well as the yard management systems & processes.

What you will be doing:
Supporting / leading the deployment of the transportation management and yard management systems in field of Operations (FedEx hubs and stations and Linehaul Operating Centers).
Acting as a subject matter expert and having regular interaction with multiple departments (Field Planning & Engineering, Hub Planning & Engineering, IT, Operations) as well as with different levels in the organization, from operators, to developers and architects, managers and directors.
Playing a vital role in supporting Operations with process optimisation and optimised system usage in order to improve efficiency and service performance for a better customer experience.
Providing technical expertise and ongoing support to cross-functional project teams as required.
Assessing and analysing (complex) problems into tangible solution options and actions and initiates opportunities for process or system improvements.
Translating functional system enhancements into new demand delivering business value and breaking down the demand into features for IT development providing the business context and related processes.
Engineering and testing solutions for the Road Network processes to improve our operational business goals.
Utilising all available sources to keep abreast of new/changing technologies and methodologies in the market place related to Road Network Transportation or yard management.
Conducting independent audits focusing on defined areas and/or participating in audit project teams focusing on specific operational areas or locations.
Creating measurement systems, processes, procedures and work instructions.
What do you bring with you:
Degree or professional qualification in Industrial Engineering or quantitative discipline.
Work experience in the (express) logistics field has a preference.
Excellent command of English both written and spoken.
Creative thinker with the ability to recognize improvement opportunities.
Experience of developing solutions to operational business challenges.
Good understanding of the business environment and how strategy is translated into business focused solutions.
Able to work effectively with different cultures & nationalities.
Experience of presenting scenarios to management.
Able to translate technical information and model outputs into user-friendly language and format.
Experience of utilising relevant software tools (e.g. Excel, Word, MS Project) to translate business needs into computerised simulations.
Able to perform audits of processes and procedures.
Good financial awareness.
Strong project management skills and change management skills to successfully deploy projects within Operations.
Analytical thinker using analytical concepts and tools to problem solving in a pragmatic way.
Result and target oriented, ability to set priorities and getting things done in a high pace.
Flexible approach towards work and willingness to travel and organises own work in alignment with the team.
