Offer Description Molecular building blocks engaged in conducting materials, such as tetrathiafulvalenes and dithiolene complexes, offer interesting optical properties in solution such as a strong NIR absorption. During this PhD thesis, we want to explore and manipulate these properties by engineering a library of novel dithiolene complexes, based on the preparation of mixed-ligand complexes. Our aim is to investigate their photothermoelectric properties for energy applications.
This PhD thesis involves a strong investment in molecular synthetic chemistry (organic, organometallic, and coordination chemistry) for the elaboration of dithiolene ligands and their complexes, their characterizations (electrochemistry, spectro-electrochemistry, UV-Vis-NIR absorption), and an interest in solid-state studies, including crystallization and crystal growth (electrocrystallization) of the complexes, as well as structural studies by single crystal X-ray diffraction, with a focus on electronic solid-state properties, investigated through our long-term collaborations (Orsay, Seoul).
Specific Requirements We offer (i) comprehensive, interdisciplinary research in molecular materials associating organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, electrochemistry, crystal growth, and crystallography; (ii) supportive mentoring by two complementary PhD advisors; (iii) exchange interactions with other PhD students in the group; and (iv) integration into the Rennes doctoral school (300 PhD students in chemistry and physics).
Financial support is based on an ANR contract administered by CNRS. The net salary amounts to 1700 €/month, for a duration of 36 months, starting in September/October 2024.
