Following my Order issued on October 7, 2024, by delegated power under Ordinance no.9493/2022 published in the Official Gazette ( Diário da República ), 2nd series, no. 148 of 02 August, this call for applications is hereby opened for a period of thirty (30) working days from the day following the publication of this notice in the Diário da República, for one position of Assistant Professor in the disciplinary area of Industrial Engineering and Management at the Faculty of Engineering of this University.
Applicable legal provisions Articles 37 to 51, 61 and 62-A of the University Teaching Career Statute (ECDU – Estatuto da Carreira Docente Universitária ), republished in Decree-Law 205/2009 of 31 August, and amended by Law no. 8/2010 of 13th May, and the Regulations for the Recruitment of Full, Associate and Assistant Professors of the University of Porto (abbreviated to Regulations), approved by Order no. 12913/2010, published in the Official Gazette, 2nd Series, no. 154 of 10th August, and the Amendment Resolution (excerpt) no. 380/2019, published in the Official Gazette, 2nd Series, no. 64 of 1st April 2019.
Eligible candidates 2.1 - Under the provisions of Article 41-A of the ECDU, all candidates in this call for applications must hold a PhD degree.
If the doctoral degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in the Official Gazette, 1st series, no. 157 of 16 August. This formality must be accomplished by the application deadline.
2.2 - Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese. Candidates of foreign nationality, except those from Portuguese-speaking countries, must have a command of spoken and written Portuguese at common reference level B1 or above. This requirement is officially recognized through a Portuguese communicative competence certificate or diploma from the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
3.2. A candidate who is approved by an absolute majority of the voting Selection Committee members is considered approved on absolute merit.
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in the disciplinary area of Industrial Engineering and Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field considered relevant to any of the aforementioned areas;
The candidate must have a curriculum focused on topics related to Enterprise Information Systems, with a level of scientific merit, research capacity, and developed activities deemed by the jury members to be compatible with the disciplinary area and the rank for which the position is announced;
The candidate must have submitted a high-quality, consistent, up-to-date, and feasible scientific-pedagogical program, with previous scientific work demonstrating its feasibility, and must be capable of contributing to advancements in the state-of-the-art in one or more topics of Enterprise Information Systems.
Evaluation and ranking based on relative merit Once successful candidates have been admitted based on absolute merit, the Selection Committee will proceed to their ranking by relative merit, based on the established selection dimensions and criteria, respective weighting and final valuation system, established in accordance with the provisions of no. 6 of Article 50 of the ECDU and Article 16 of the Regulations.
Without detriment to the minimum criteria identified for absolute merit approval, the evaluation of candidates will focus on the following dimensions and Project, with emphasis on curricular aspects in the disciplinary area for which the competition was opened, with a special focus on the fields of Enterprise Information Systems and with exclusive consideration of the activity carried out by the candidates from 2013 onwards, inclusive:
Scientific Merit (VMC) – 40%
Pedagogical experience and merit (VMP) – 20%
Extension Tasks and Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge (VTC) - 20%
Scientific-Pedagogical Project (VPL) – 20%
Assessment criteria The criteria to be taken into consideration in the assessment of each of the dimensions of assessment and project identified in the previous point and the weighting to be given to each of them in the final classification are detailed below, without detriment to the minimums identified in the assessment in absolute merit, if applicable:
Scientific Merit (VMC) – 40%
Pedagogical Experience and Merit dimension (VMP) – 20%
Extension Tasks and Economic and Social Valorisation of Knowledge (VTC) dimension - 20%
Scientific and Pedagogical Project (VPL) – 20%
Submission of applications 6.1. Delivery of applications
The application must be submitted exclusively on the FEUP website, at the following address: http://www.fe.up.pt/concursos, until the established deadline.
6.2. Required application procedures and documents
Mandatory application form (personal data and statements), fully filled in and duly dated and signed, which is available at:
Documents proving fulfilment of the conditions set out in paragraph 2 of this notice, namely, the doctoral certificate, except for cases corresponding to the award of the doctoral degree at the University of Porto;
Proof of recognition of the PhD awarded by a foreign higher education institution by a Portuguese higher education institution (if applicable);
Certificate or diploma of communicative competence in Portuguese from the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Common Frame of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe, in the case of candidates of foreign nationality, except those from Portuguese-speaking countries;
The Curriculum Vitae must mandatorily include, as an annex, a performance report prepared by the candidate. This report should provide an analysis of the most relevant works and elements from the curriculum vitae, highlighting their scientific performance, teaching capacity, and other activities pertinent to the university's mission, particularly regarding their contribution to the scientific and technological development and advancement of the recruitment field in question. This report should not exceed 4 A4 pages, using font size 10 in Times New Roman or Arial.
A copy of each of the works and evidence of the activities mentioned in the submitted curriculum vitae, which allow for verification and assessment of the criteria outlined in points 3.4 and 4.2 of this notice.
Additionally, candidates may highlight, in a separate PDF file, up to ten of these works/activities mentioned in the curriculum that they consider most representative of their work, providing the reasons that justify the selection of the highlighted documents.
6.6 . Failure to comply with the provisions of 6.1 above will result in exclusion from the application.
Notification of the results and requests for a prior hearing The Human Resources Service of the Common Resources and Services Centre of the University of Porto will notify the candidates of the administrative ranking of admission or non-admission to the call, which will be based on the fulfilment or non-fulfilment of the conditions established in the legislation in force and in paragraph 2 of this Notice, and the conditions established regarding the application instructions referred to in paragraph 6.2.
All candidates are notified of the final resolution approved by the Rector.
The deadline for candidates to comment in writing is ten working days.
