RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS FOR AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THE DISCIPLINARY AREA OF MANAGEMENT AT FACULDADE DE ECONOMIA DA UNIVERSIDADE DO PORTOAntónio de Sousa Pereira, Full Professor at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto and Rector of the same University, hereby announces that a recruitment procedure is open for a period of 30 working days, starting from the working day following the publication of this notice in the Jornal de Notícias and on the websites of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto and the University of Porto. This recruitment process aims to select an Assistant Professor on an indefinite employment contract, under the Labor Code and the Regulation of Celebration of Employment Contracts for Teaching Personnel of the University of Porto under the Labor Code (Order no. 1567/2013 of January 25, 2013, published in the DR, 2nd series, no. 18, of January 25, 2013), for the disciplinary area of Economics, particularly in the domain of Industrial Economics.1. Applicable Legal Provisions:Articles 37 to 51, 61, and 62-A of the Statute of the University Teaching Career (ECDU), republished by Decree-Law No. 205/2009, of August 31, and amended by Law No. 8/2010, of May 13; and the Regulation on the Execution of Employment Contracts for Teaching Staff of the University of Porto under the Labor Code.2. Admission to the recruitment process:Candidates who hold a doctoral degree will be admitted.If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in the Diário da República, 1st series, no. 157, of August 16, 2018, and any formalities set out therein must be fulfilled by the application deadline.3. Absolute merit3.1. If there are no grounds for rejecting applications for failure to comply with the provisions of the previous paragraph, the Selection Committee will decide whether or not to approve them on absolute merit, by justified roll-call vote, with no abstentions allowed.3.2. A candidate who is approved by an absolute majority of the voting members of the Selection Committee will be considered to have passed on absolute merit.3.3. Candidates' approval on absolute merit will depend on their cumulative fulfillment of the following conditions:The candidate must hold a PhD in Economics or another area deemed appropriate;The candidate must possess a curriculum whose merit the selection committee considers to reflect a scientific and pedagogical level, research capacity, and professional activity compatible with the disciplinary area and academic rank for which the position is open;The candidate must demonstrate in their curriculum strong competencies in the core areas of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics, with particular emphasis on Industrial Economics;The candidate must have, in the last five years (since 2019 inclusive), at least one article published or accepted for publication in journals ranked 3 to 4* in the Academic Journal Guide by the Chartered Association of Business Schools (ABS), or two articles published or definitively accepted for publication in scientific journals indexed in categories 2 to 4* of the ABS, or in the top two quartiles of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) of the Web of Science (WoS), or in the top quartile of the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR).4. Selection ProcessThe selection process for candidates admitted to the recruitment process will occur in two phases: Curriculum Assessment (CA) and Interview (I), with the former being eliminatory for candidates who, despite having been approved based on absolute merit, according to point 2, do not meet the required conditions for admission to the interview as stipulated in point 4.2.1 below.4.1. Curriculum Assessment (CA):Evaluation Aspects and CriteriaIn the curriculum assessment process, the following aspects will be considered:Scientific Merit Aspect (SMA - 60%): This aspect will consider scientific research activities in the field of Economics:Quality and relevance of scientific production conducted in the last five years, indexed in the disciplinary area of the announcement (70%);Recognition and impact of the research within the scientific community (20%);Other scientific activities (10%).Pedagogical Merit Aspect (PMA - 20%): This aspect will consider pedagogical activities in the field of Economics:Teaching activities and pedagogical performance, measured through pedagogical surveys, awards, and other distinctions (80%);Other pedagogical activities (20%).Scientific-Pedagogical Project (20%): This project should outline the scientific and pedagogical domains that the candidate proposes to develop, highlighting their innovative contributions in the disciplinary area for which the competition is open.4.1.2. The grading of the components is always done on a standardized scale of 0-100 points.4.1.3. Following their evaluative exercise, each member of the Selection Committee prepares their ranked list of curricular evaluation, in accordance with the criteria, which they use in the voting process that determines the candidates' ranking in the curricular assessment method, accompanied by the respective justification.4.2. Interview (I):The interview takes place in the second phase of the process, complementing the curriculum assessment, and is conducted only for candidates ranked in the top three positions of the curriculum assessment.The evaluation of aspects is always carried out on a standardized scale of 0-100.5. Deliberations of the Selection CommitteeThe Selection Committee will decide on the approval and ranking of candidates by means of a reasoned roll-call vote, based on the selection criteria adopted and the scores awarded for each.6. Duties to be performed:The duties to be performed are described in Annex I of the Regulations for the Conclusion of Employment Contracts for Teaching Staff at the University of Porto under the Labor Code. Assistant professors are responsible for teaching practical and theoretical-practical classes and providing services in laboratory or field work, in curricular units of the various study cycles and non-degree programs or courses, as well as teaching curricular units of these study cycles and programs or courses. They are also responsible for guiding and carrying out research work, university outreach, scientific dissemination, and the economic and social valorization of knowledge.7. Application Requirements:The application must be accompanied by the following documents; failure to provide these will result in disqualification from the competition:Doctorate certificate;Proof of recognition of the doctorate awarded by a foreign higher education institution (if applicable);Curriculum Vitae, organized according to the evaluation criteria outlined in point 3;Works mentioned in the Curriculum Vitae;Article to be presented at the interview;Scientific-pedagogical project that the candidate proposes to develop;Language proficiency declaration for non-native speakers.8. Notifications:The Human Resources Service will notify candidates of the decisions made regarding the competitive procedure via email.The assistant professor will be hired for an indefinite period with a probationary period of five years.In compliance with equal opportunity policies, the terms "candidate(s)," "professor(s)," and other similar terms are gender-neutral.
