NOTICE OF THE OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR RECRUITMENT OF ONE RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Ana Cristina Freire, Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, hereby advertises the opening for 10 working days of an international call for recruitment on a position for the category equivalent to Researcher Assistant, within the scope of Project 101120165 – Natural Traces, financed by the European Commission.
1 - Main research field : Computer Science or related area.
2 - Admission requirements: Application can be submitted by any nationals, foreigners and stateless people with Master's Degree in Computer Science or related area.
If the candidate holds a degree awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions established in the Decree-Law no. 66/2018 on July 16. All the formalities established in the Decree-Law must be met until the hiring.
Failure to comply with these requirements results in the preliminary rejection of the application.
3 - Special admission requirements: Candidates must have skills and previous experience in some of the following areas: Bioinformatics (including analysing data obtained from omics experiments, ideally microbiomes), Scientific Programming, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning.
The candidate must have good fluency in English (written and spoken); and must be a doctoral candidate, i.e., not have obtained a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
4 - Conditions of award of the position: After this selection procedure, it is compulsory to enrol and attend the Doctoral Programme in Computer Science at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.
Mobility requirement: At the time of recruitment, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Portugal for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately preceding the date of recruitment.
5 - Functions to be performed: This is a job offer for a PhD Candidate (DC) for the European Training Network "Natural Traces" (Project 101120165, Horizon Europe). The DC will be involved in cutting-edge research in the context of the use of non-human DNA in forensic recognition and interpretation.
Specific tasks include:
Quality control analysis of microbiome data;
Evaluation of data normalization and feature engineering processing steps;
Characterization of mixtures of microbiomes;
Application of generative AI methods;
Application of Bayesian methods;
Development of prediction models based on Machine Learning models;
Writing progress reports, scientific articles, presenting work at scientific meetings.
6 - The place of work: The work will be carried out at the Department of Computer Science at Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), under the supervision of Professor Pedro Gabriel Ferreira; and at i3S - Institute for Research and Innovation in Health at the University of Porto, under the supervision of Dr Nádia Pinto.
9 - Duration of contract: This employment contract is scheduled to start in January 2025 , on a full-time basis, with the duration of 36 months.
10 - Remuneration: The monthly remuneration corresponds to € 1727,04 calculated based on the amount funded by the European Commission.
