FCUP | CALL FOR RECRUITMENT OF ONE RESEARCH TRAINER | CHEMISTRYFaculty of Sciences of the University of Porto – Porto, Distrito do PortoNOTICE OF THE OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF ONE RESEARCH TRAINERAna Cristina Freire, Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, hereby advertises the opening for 10 working days of an international call for the recruitment of one Research Trainer with a master's degree, fixed-term contract within the scope of the Scientific Research Project PRR-Agenda Mobilizadora-C644929456-00000040-VIIAFood, funded by IAPMEI.1. Main research field: Chemistry1.1. Scientific Sub-area: Food Chemistry2. RequirementsAdmission requirements: Application can be submitted by nationals, foreigners, and stateless people who meet the following conditions cumulatively: hold a Master's degree in the above-mentioned scientific area or related areas.Preferred requirements:Proven experience in the following methods will be considered:Extraction, characterization, purification, and identification of natural compounds from natural sources (HPLC, low-pressure liquid chromatography, NMR, mass spectrometry, gas chromatography).Nutritional characterization of products (antioxidant activity, quantification of macro and micronutrients and contaminants), knowledge of colorimetric techniques (DPPH, FRAP; Folin, Lipid peroxidation);Methods for assessing the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of nutrients and phenolics in food products (digestion simulation systems, assessment of enzymatic activity, cell culture maintenance techniques, and methodologies for quantifying the transport of compounds across cell barriers).If the candidate holds a MSc awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions established in the Decree-Law no. 66/2018 on July 16. All the formalities established in the Decree-Law must be met until the hiring.3. Functions to be performed:Evaluate the maintenance of vitamin and mineral stability in the formulations during the shelf life using accelerated aging studies.Assess the phenolic content of the formulations through colorimetric and chromatographic techniques, considering the possibility of interaction with minerals.Prepare the elements for labeling of the developed product(s), including the ingredient list (proteins, lipids, moisture, ash, carbohydrates, and fibers), nutritional declaration containing information about micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), and permissible nutritional claims according to current legislation.Evaluate the bioaccessibility of the products using digestion systems, including oral, gastric, and intestinal simulation.Assess the stability of bioaccessibility in digested fluids using intestinal cell culture models in transwell systems.4. Applicable laws and regulations:Regulation No. 487/2020 of the Research, Science and Technology Staff of the University of Porto, published n.º 100/2020 in the 2nd series of Diário da República on May 22, 2020.Labor Code approved by Law No. 7/2009, of February 12, in its current wording.Administrative Procedure Code, approved by Decree-Law No. 4/2015, of January 7, in its current wording.5. The place of work: The functions will be developed in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP).6. Duration of contract:This employment contract is scheduled to start on 1st November and will be maintained only for the period due to accomplishing the job description tasks under a full-time regime.7. Remuneration: €1,543.88 (second position of Full-time Research Trainer category, with remuneration level 1, according to Regulation No. 487/2020 of the Research, Science and Technology Staff of the University of Porto).8. Methods of selection and definition of their weights/evolution criteria:The selection will be based on evaluating the candidates' scientific and academic careers.The mandatory selection method is the evaluation of the scientific and curricular path.• The use of selection methods is phased, as follows:Application, at the first moment, to all the admitted candidates, of the evaluation of the scientific and curricular path;Application of the second method, interview or presentation session or public demonstration, to part of the candidates approved in the previous method.• Valuation of selection methodsEach jury member evaluates the candidates' scientific and curricular path on a scale from 0 to 100 points, with valuation up to the hundredths, with the classification obtained through the weighting defined in the criteria to be evaluated.The evaluation of the second selection method is expressed on a scale from 0 to 100 points, with valuation up to the hundredths.• Assessment of the scientific and curricular path obligatorily and optional interview with a maximum weighting of 10%.Evaluation of the scientific and curricular path:The assessment of the scientific and curricular background (APCC) will be made by each member of the jury, on a scale of 0 to 100 points, valued to the hundredths, for each of the following assessment criteria:Classification obtained in the Master's degree - C1Classification obtained in the Curriculum Vitae analysis - C2- In this item, the candidate's suitability for project development will be valued at 60%, and professional experience will be valued at 40%.The final score of the curriculum evaluation and scientific path (ACPS) will be obtained by the expression:ACPS = 0.4*C1 + 0.6*C2According to the score in the curriculum criteria (ACPS), the three best candidates will be called for an interview with the selection panel, which can take place via videoconference if the candidate requests it. The interview score (IS) will be expressed on the scale 0 – 100. The final score (FS) of candidates admitted for the interview will be determined according to the expression:FS = 0.9*ACPS + 0.1*IS9. Evaluation Methodology:9.1. After the admission of candidates and before starting the voting for the final ranking of candidates based on their scientific and professional background, each member of the jury must submit a written document, to be attached to the minutes, containing a ranked list of candidates in descending order of merit, duly justified, considering the criteria and parameters outlined in the competition notice.9.2. The ranking methodology is as follows:The candidate who obtains an absolute majority in each vote is placed in the ranked position;Voting is conducted using the successive voting method;In accordance with the previous provision, the jury first votes for the 1st position, then for the 2nd position, and so on, until all admitted candidates are ranked;If a candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes, they are ranked in the position being voted on and removed from further consideration, with the process then beginning to select the candidate for the next position, and so on;If an absolute majority is not achieved in the voting for any position, the jury repeats the vote for that position, excluding the least-voted candidate in each round of voting, up to a maximum of three rounds, until a candidate achieves an absolute majority;If a tie occurs when determining the least-voted candidate, the jury repeats the voting, up to a limit of three rounds, only among the tied candidates, excluding the least-voted candidate in each round.9.3. If an absolute majority is not reached after the votes outlined in the previous section, or if the tie persists, the President's casting vote will be used to determine the final ranking.9.4. Each jury member must adhere to the ranking they presented in the document mentioned in section 9.1 during the various voting rounds.Minutes are taken at the jury meetings, containing a summary of the proceedings, indicating the direction of the votes cast by each member and their respective justifications, which may be included in separate documents attached to the minutes. These minutes are signed by all jury members present.Candidates who score below 80 points, according to most of the selection jury members, are not eligible for the position.The jury's final decision is ratified by the highest-ranking official of the institution responsible for initiating the competition procedure. The final decision regarding the hiring is the responsibility of the highest-ranking official of the hiring entity.10. Results notifications:The Human Resources Service of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto will notify candidates of the decisions made within the scope of the recruitment process. All candidates will be informed of the ratification of the Selection Committee's final decision. Preliminary Hearing and Deadline for Final Decision: According to Article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code, candidates have 10 business days to respond after being notified. The jury's final decisions will be issued within a maximum period of 90 days from the deadline for submitting applications.14. This recruitment procedure is exclusively intended to fill the indicated vacancies and may be terminated until the final ranking list of candidates is approved, becoming void upon the respective occupation of the available positions.15.
