ROLE SUMMARY:PaRK International School, located in Lisbon, aims to guide students to academic success and personal growth. We are seeking a well-qualified English teacher (bilingual stream) for our junior school to start in August 2025.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Deliver Engaging English Instruction: Teach English language and literacy skills aligned with bilingual learning objectives, ensuring students grasp core reading, writing, and communication skills in both English and Portuguese.Curriculum Design and Implementation: Plan, prepare, and deliver differentiated lessons that align with both the local and international curricula, catering to the diverse learning needs of bilingual students in grades 1-5.Foster Language Development: Develop strategies to support students in becoming proficient in both English and Portuguese, emphasizing vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, and effective communication.Student-Centered Learning: Create a student-centered learning environment where interactive lessons encourage participation, collaboration, and critical thinking.Classroom Management: Maintain a well-organized and structured classroom environment that fosters a positive learning atmosphere, ensuring students adhere to classroom norms and exhibit respectful behavior.Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents on areas of growth and improvement.Cultural Awareness and Integration: Promote cultural awareness by integrating elements of students' home culture into English lessons, helping students appreciate and engage with different cultures while building their language skills.Parent Communication: Maintain open communication with parents, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns regarding language development and academic achievement.Collaboration with Colleagues: Work collaboratively with other teachers and support staff to develop and implement cross-curricular activities that support bilingual learning and foster a love for both languages.Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in bilingual education and language acquisition, ensuring teaching methods are up-to-date and effective.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:Bilingual Proficiency: Fluent in both English and Portuguese, with a strong command of English for teaching purposes.Relevant Qualifications: A degree in English, Linguistics, Education, or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification (such as PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).Experience in Bilingual Education: Proven experience teaching in a bilingual or dual-language setting, preferably in grades 1-5, with familiarity in the development of bilingual language acquisition.Curriculum Knowledge: Expertise in designing and delivering bilingual learning programs, with familiarity in international curricula such as IB PYP, as well as local curriculum requirements.Classroom Management Skills: Strong classroom management skills, capable of creating a well-structured, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that promotes student engagement and behaviour.Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of bilingual students, tailoring lessons to suit different language proficiencies and abilities.Cultural Awareness: Sensitivity to cultural differences and an understanding of how to integrate cultural elements into lessons to make language learning relevant and meaningful for students.Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in a bilingual educational setting.Commitment to Professional Development: A passion for continuous learning, staying current with the latest trends in bilingual education, language acquisition, and instructional practices.Passion for Student Development: A deep commitment to nurturing the academic, social, and emotional well-being of young learners, helping them to develop both linguistic and personal skills.SAFEGUARDING STATEMENTInspired Education Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment.
