Offer Description A post-doctoral position is available in the group of László Tora and Stéphane D. Vincent at the Institute for Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) in Strasbourg (France). The post translation modification (PTM) of core histone proteins, which organize all eukaryotic genomes into chromatin, are participating in transcription regulation. As a result, histone PTMs are essential in organismal development, aging and numerous diseases including cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders. Understanding how histone writers function with their accessory subunits to bind and modify specific histone tail sites and consequently regulate chromatin accessibility and dynamics is essential for determining how they regulate transcription. The majority of histone PTMs are added by highly conserved modifying proteins that function in the context of large multi-subunit complexes. We study two essential histone acetyltransferase (HAT) multiprotein complexes : SAGA and ATAC , which deposit/erase different PTMs on/from the chromatin to regulate transcription. Our main goals are:
To determine how chromatin properties regulate reading and writing by these mammalian HAT complexes (SAGA and ATAC).
To elucidate how the different subunits of the related SAGA and ATAC HAT complexes control their differential targeting and transcription activity.
We are looking for a highly motivated , interactive and experienced candidate with strong expertise in molecular biology . Additional experience in genome-wide data analyses will be necessary. In their application letters, candidates should describe what is their motivation to join our project and how their expertise may contribute to the success of the project.
The IGBMC is among the leading European centers of biomedical research. IGBMC offers an international and attractive research environment (~45 research groups, 17 technological platforms, imaging, proteomics, high throughput sequencing, and bioinformatics). It covers a wide range of disciplines and methodologies from cellular and molecular biology, development genetics and translational medicine to bioinformatics. The Tora/Vincent lab is an internationally well-known and recognized group in the field of studying RNA Polymerase II transcription regulation. The work of our lab has moved the field forward by improving our understanding of basic mechanisms behind transcriptional regulation in eukaryotes that helped to better understand pathological processes where these mechanisms are deregulated.
