About the role: The core purpose of this job function is to be responsible for carrying out the inspection of both piece parts and assemblies using a Faro measurement arm. The post holder will also be required to operate and assist with final inspection using a CMM. Key duties include, but are not limited to:
Performing mechanical inspection and alignment of precision assemblies on in-house as well as vendor-produced mechanical components.Setting-up and operating metrology equipment including conventional coordinate measuring machines and/or portable articulating arm coordinate measuring machines (e.g. Faro).Reading and interpreting elementary engineering drawings in order to be able to properly set-up parts/assemblies for CMM measurement.Utilising and applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing Standards.Communicating with others to gain a clear understanding of design intent for each project.Clearly and effectively reporting measurement results to stakeholders.Providing proactive support and judgement on product quality to production teams.Supporting and organising dimensional PPAP documentation to customer approval.Documenting and evaluating historical data to determine calibration intervals.Ensuring that the interests of the customer are represented.Cleaning and maintaining a safe work area.Complying at all times with the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety Policy.Supporting, complying and ensuring complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.What we're looking for: Applications will be considered from candidates who are educated to degree level or equivalent and hold an internal auditor's qualification. Demonstrable experience using CMMs and CMM software such as Polyworks, Calypso, and CAM2M10, and a working knowledge of Zeiss Calypso software is also desirable. We have also outlined the below additional requirements of the suitable candidate:
Be able to use basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators and apply proper tool selection for optimal measurement.Demonstrated knowledge in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards (such as ASME Y14.5M and/or ISO 1101).Demonstrated experience in CAD system utilisation, import and export of 3D models for CMM programming and data acquisition.Technical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing principles and practices.Extensive working knowledge of continuous improvement techniques such as 8D, 6 Sigma, and 5S.Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Experience of using data systems and being able to learn and adapt systems to assist in continuous improvement.Excellent IT skills and knowledge of MS programmes, particularly Microsoft Excel Intermediate level, ability to work with spreadsheets.What you can expect from us: We signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2018 and achieved their Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2024 which means that we actively support and encourage service leavers, reservists, and cadets to join our team, recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process.
