The Centro de Ciências do Mar do Algarve (CCMAR) is opening a recruitment and selection process for one position for an Assistant Researcher in the field of Chemical Oceanography. This position is open to citizens of any nationality, including stateless individuals, under a permanent employment contract to recruit and select the best candidate for activities within the Institutional CEEC - Support Contract for Associated Laboratories funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
1. About CCMAR:

With a multidisciplinary team, well-equipped facilities, and laboratories, CCMAR engages in core areas such as research, training, business, societal engagement, and collaboration.
2. Summary and Functions:
This position is for an assistant researcher in the field of Chemical Oceanography to:
Develop innovative and high-quality research in one or more of the following topics: chemical processes in the Global Ocean, carbon pump, nutrient cycling, and ocean acidification;
Supervise students of various degrees, particularly master's and doctoral students;
Contribute to the development of CCMAR's scientific strategy;
Acquire external research funding and collaborate on CCMAR's institutional initiatives.
4. Start Date: The contract is expected to start in January 2025.
5. Workplace: Activities will take place at CCMAR (University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal) and other locations necessary for the proposed tasks.
6. Working Hours: 35 hours per week.
7. Monthly Salary: The gross base monthly salary is €3,427.59.
8. Application Period: The application period starts on November 1 until November 18, 2024, at 23:59 (Lisbon time, Portugal).
9. Required Profile:
The selected candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography, Biogeochemical Oceanography, or a similar field, with at least 3 years of experience in similar roles, and possess an integrated and holistic approach to ocean sciences, with sea experience (participation and organization of campaigns), excellent knowledge of laboratory techniques and statistics.
High proficiency in English (spoken and written) is also required. Non-compliance with these requirements invalidates the application.

The jury for the competition consists of:
Adelino Canário, President of the CCMAR Board of Directors and Full Professor at the University of Algarve;
Paulo Relvas, Assistant Professor at the University of Algarve and researcher at CCMAR;
Alice Newton, Full Professor at the University of Algarve;
Maria Eduarda da Cunha Pereira, Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro.
11. Evaluation and Selection Process:
The evaluation will consist of a curriculum assessment (final rating between 0-100) based on scientific and curricular path, focusing on the relevance, quality, and up-to-dateness of the following criteria:
Scientific and technological production of the last 5 years, considered most relevant by the candidate (55%);
Applied or practice-based research activities developed in the last five years (20%);
Extension and dissemination activities of the last five years (4%);
Management activities of science, technology, and innovation programs (1%).
(MCI) Motivation and Capacity for Innovation (20%):
Coherence in expressing motivations for the position;
Demonstration of alignment with the goals and values of CCMAR;
Ability to present specific contributions to the development of CCMAR.
The selection panel reserves the right to contact or interview candidates if additional information or clarification of documentary aspects related to research results is needed.
