About The Role
The Category Manager for Sustainable Materials will act as the central point of contact for all product-related matters concerning sustainable materials on Resins and Aluminium globally. The role focuses on the identification, evaluation, contractually securing and implementation of sustainable material solutions, particularly in resins and aluminium, which account for a significant portion of Scope 3 emissions and have the biggest potential for recycled content inclusion. This position plays a pivotal role in building roadmaps to achieve emission reductions, supporting sales with sustainable material propositions, and working closely with suppliers to explore innovative materials like mPCR resins, advanced recycled resins, bio-resins, and low-carbon aluminium.
Key Job Accountabilities Sustainable Materials Lead Act as the central point of contact for all product-related aspects of sustainable materials for Resins and Aluminium.Develop, implement, and monitor strategies to integrate sustainable materials into the supply chain, with a key focus on reducing Scope 3 emissions and increasing the use of recycled content.mPCR Resins Lead global efforts to identify and screen mechanically recycled (mPCR) resins and create implementation plans in collaboration with regional R&D and Procurement teams.Ensure seamless integration of mPCR resins into manufacturing processes by closely partnering with procurement and operational teams.Advanced Recycled Resins Oversee and manage the execution of existing agreements (MOUs/LOIs) for advanced recycled resins.Track and report the usage of advanced recycled materials across business groups to align with sustainability targets.Support Business Groups in optimizing the allocation of advanced recycled materials (ARM) based on availability and customer demand.Provide strategic price guidance to marketing and sales teams to ensure competitive and sustainable offerings.Bio-Resins Assess new bio-resin solutions from suppliers, focusing on sustainable feedstocks like sugarcane, used cooking oil, etc., ensuring they meet virgin-like quality standards.Collaborate with suppliers to integrate bio-resins into production processes, aligning with sustainability and quality requirements.Low-Carbon and Recycled Aluminium Develop and maintain roadmaps for sourcing low-carbon and recycled aluminium, ensuring alignment with the company's sustainability targets.Provide strategic leadership in aluminium procurement with a focus on minimizing GHG emissions and meeting sustainability goals.Material Emission Benchmarks Establish and maintain emissions benchmarks for resins and aluminium, which represent over 50% of the company's Scope 3 emissions.Regularly track and report progress towards achieving emissions reduction objectives, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability goals.Support Sales & Value Propositions Collaborate with sales teams to develop compelling customer value propositions based on sustainable material offerings.Leverage supplier insights to position the company as a market leader in sustainable packaging solutions.New Sustainable Products and Materials Identify and assess emerging sustainable materials and products, contributing to the company's innovation pipeline.Work in collaboration with sustainability and R&D teams to ensure optimal material selection for product development and sustainability targets.Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with procurement, R&D, sales, and sustainability teams to ensure that sustainable material decisions are fully aligned with the company's strategic objectives.Serve as a liaison between the Global Category Lead Director and various business units to ensure the effective rollout of sustainable material initiatives.Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Operate in accordance with the responsibilities and authorities defined in Appendix 2, ensuring adherence to OHS&E standards.Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor's degree required; a Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.5+ years of experience in sustainable materials, sustainability procurement, or a similar field.Experience working with suppliers on sustainable product offerings, including resins and aluminium.Proven track record of managing sustainability-related projects and supplier relationships.Strong understanding of sustainable materials markets, including mPCR, bio-resins, and low-carbon aluminium.Advanced knowledge of GHG emissions, carbon accounting, and Scope 3 emission reductions.Ability to work with suppliers to drive innovation in sustainable materials and build strong partnerships.Strong project management skills, with experience in tracking agreements and managing timelines and deliverables.Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across functions and influence stakeholders.
