Faro - Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and Evolution of Human Behaviour
The Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and Evolution of Human Behaviour (ICArEHB) is inviting potential candidates for a 6-year researcher positions. Expertise is open, though we are particularly interested in proposals that integrate archaeological science approaches, namely using proteomics and computational modeling applied to African Archaeology or Primatology.
The application process is part of a wider national call funded by the Portuguese National Science Foundation (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia), which aims to hire 300 new post-doctoral researcher positions in all research areas. These are 6-year contracts that can potentially become tenure positions.
There are 4 career stage levels available in this call and there are no restrictions in terms of age, nationality nor country of residency:
Junior Researcher – PhD holders for 5 or less years, with limited experience in post-doctoral research or without a scientific curriculum after their PhDs in the scientific area to which they are applying.
Assistant Researcher – PhD holders for over 5 years, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, but with limited scientific independence.
Principal Researcher – Ph.D. awarded at least 5 years ago, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, demonstrating scientific independence over the past 3 years.
Coordinating Researcher – PhD holders for over 5 years, holding the title of habilitado or agregado in Portugal, with a curriculum of elevated merit in the scientific area to which they are applying, showing scientific independence and with evidence of leadership in the scientific area to which they are applying.
Researchers must have a R&D host institution in Portugal.

Please note that the formal submission to FCT includes the following items from the candidate:
Short research plan, including main tasks, objectives and expected results;
CV;
Career short synthesis and listing of the main contributions of the last 5 years;
Evaluation of all applications is by an international panel, with two criteria: Research experience and contributions (70%) and research proposal (30%).
