Offer Description The Information Systems Development Office (GDSI) is opening a call to award 1 research grant for master's students, hereinafter referred to as a grant.
The candidate will study "Calculating the real impact of citations of scientific publications" in the scientific area of Artificial Intelligence.
The research grant is intended to finance the research activities described in the work plan below, in accordance with FCT conditions.
Application Submission The application period begins on the 13th of November 2024 at 9 a.m. and ends on 26th November 2024 at 6 p.m. (Lisbon Time).

Duration of the Research Grant The duration of the Grant is twelve (12) months, starting on 01/12/2024.
Objectives and Work Plan The work plan follows the steps:
Build a database that indexes the contents of the documentation produced by the IS development and support teams;
Develop a chatbot that uses the database to search for contextually relevant content and uses an LLM to construct answers to questions asked by team members;
Develop a response feedback mechanism to evaluate the methodology used.
Benefits The Grant holder is awarded a monthly maintenance allowance under the terms of the Table in Annex I of the RBI (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), with a value of 990,98€ (Nine hundred and ninety Euros and ninety-eight cents). All Grant holders benefit from personal accident insurance for research activities.
All Grant holders, who are not covered by any social protection scheme, may join the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms of the Social Security System. ISCTE will reimburse the charges resulting from contributions within the limits provided in Article 10 of the EBI.
The research Grant contract will follow FCT guidelines available on the website www.fct.pt. The payment of the Grant will start after the return, by the candidate, of the duly signed Grant contract, as well as all the documentation required by FCT Regulations. Payments are made via bank transfer to the account provided by the beneficiary.
Required Documents Applications are required to include the following documents:
detailed candidate's curriculum vitae;
Motivation letter (limit 300 words);
Diploma/Certificates of Qualifications (when applicable) and other relevant supporting documents.
Eligibility Criteria The following are admission requirements for the contest:
Holding a bachelor's degree in a scientific area relevant to the competition;
Fluency in Portuguese and English;
Good knowledge of programming (preferably Python) and database management;
Experience with data analysis and machine learning mechanisms.
The scholarship is intended for candidates who have completed their degree in the areas of Computer Engineering or Data Science, or in related areas, and who are attending the 2nd year of their master's degree at ISCTE.
Selection Process The selection process will be based on curriculum evaluation (60%) and a selection interview (40%), taking into account the candidates' academic performance, professional experience, merit, and motivation. Candidates found suitable for the position but not appointed shall be included on a reserve list and may be called in case of withdrawal by the selected candidate. The reserve list of candidates may be used during the 6 months following the call for applications deadline.
The evaluation panel will assess the applications according to the ranking criteria, considering all the elements required in this call for applications.
The evaluation results are communicated via e-mail to the e-mail address used by the candidate to submit the application. Candidates have 10 working days to express their opinion, claims, or appeal against the decision.
Final Report The final Grant report should be delivered to the funding entity by the end of the contract, in a 2-3 page format, having attached the supervisor(s) opinion statement. The final report should include the following:
Identity of the Grantee, Grant Reference and main purpose and objectives of the grant;
Chronological identification of the activities carried out during the grant contract and the fulfilment of the work plan;
Presentation of results;
Outcomes and outputs with reference to URL links including publications, presentations (in conferences or other), scientific results/creations.
