Job Opportunity - Call For a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) opens a call for 1 (one) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship under the project "Evolutionary Rewiring Genome Maintenance" with the funding support from EMBO – European Molecular Biology Organization.
Scientific Area(s): Evolutionary Cell Biology
Fellowship recipients / Admission requirements: Any National, foreign and stateless candidate(s).
Applicants must hold the following requirements:
PhD in life sciences (obtained less than 3 years ago);
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently under general supervision;
Excellent communication and writing skills;
Preferred Criteria:
Experience with Evolutionary Biology;
Familiarity with Genomics;
Computational skills;
Experience in Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology;
Familiarity with the model organism (S. cerevisiae), or other microorganisms;
The international experience of the candidates, although not a determining criterion for selection, will be valued.
Work Plan and Objectives: The postdoctoral researcher will lead an independent project under the supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator. The project will aim to understand basic principles governing genome maintenance over evolutionary timescales. It will involve molecular, cellular, and evolutionary techniques with S. cerevisiae, as well as computational and genomic analyses. The postdoctoral will also give and receive help from other members of the lab, and will be expected to actively participate in the lab and institutional intellectual activities.
Predicted start date, duration and renewal conditions: The fellowship contract is predicted to start in November 2024, for a period of 12 (twelve) months on an exclusive basis, eventually renewable until the maximum stipulated in applicable regulations, not exceeding the eligibility period of the project (expected to end on 31/12/2027).
Work place and Scientific orientation: The research activities will be developed at the Genome Maintenance and Evolution Lab of GIMM, under the supervision of Dr. Marco Fumasoni.
Non-discrimination and equal access policy: GIMM undertakes to ensure compliance with the principles of non-discrimination and equality.
International environment and experience: Diversity is a fundamental aspect of the essence of GIMM, where researchers and non-researchers of different nationalities, backgrounds and areas of study work together.
Research Fellows Support Centre: The Research Fellows Support Centre operates on working days from 09:00 AM to 11:00 AM at GIMM's People & Culture Office.
Fellowship financial conditions: The fellow will benefit from a monthly stipend in the amount of 2.260,00€ and will also benefit from personal accident insurance.
Application documents: Prospective candidates should provide a Cover Letter summarising their interests, a detailed CV with contact details of potential references and a PhD certificate.
NOTE: The non-compliance with these requirements determines the immediate rejection of the application.
Jury evaluation and selection: Drs. Marco Fumasoni, Giulia Ghedini and Ana Garona (GIMM).
Selection methods: The selection will be based upon: Cover letter (20%), CV (50%) and fit for the lab (30%). Candidates who score less than 80/100 points will be considered not eligible.
Deadlines and application process: The call will be open for a mandatory minimum period of 10 working days, starting on October 15 th 2024 and ending on October 28 th 2024.
Applications should be addressed to: The Principal Investigator, Dr. Marco Fumasoni, through the e-mail ******.
