Offer Description
This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an international environment with valuable teaching and research experience.
Main Duties
Teaching (presencial and virtual) in the required areas of expertise;
Participating in academic activities including professional and community activities;
Providing academic and career advising to students;
Developing advanced and international research at CBIOS, within the respective areas of expertise;
Contributing to the promotion of the internationalization of CBIOS and/or ECTS;
Leading and cooperating in application processes for competitive national and international funding;
Collaborating in training activities in scientific research included in the scientific strategy of CBIOS and/or ECTS.
Contractual terms:
The position of the Associate Professor is made effective using an open-ended employment contract, under the Portuguese Labour Code;
The tasks to be carried out in the fulfillment of this position are those considered in the scope of the ECTS and of the Research Unit - CBIOS;
The contract to be made is scheduled to begin in the first semester of 2025;
The tasks comprehended in the object of the employment contract take place in the facilities of Campo Grande 376, in Lisbon;
The gross base monthly salary depending on qualifications and work experience will range from € 2500 up to a maximum of € 3500 for a full-time position, without exclusivity;

Skills/Qualifications
Position to be filled and terms of open call: The call aims to hire an Associate Professor, with an open-ended employment contract;
Any Ph.D. assistant/associate professors/researchers may apply for the position;
The candidate must hold a doctoral degree for more than 10 years in the disciplinary areas for which the competition is opened, recognized within the European Higher Education Area and, cumulatively:
A - Scientific Competences :
Oral and written proficiency in Portuguese (requirement to be fulfilled within the first year of contract) and English;
A relevant professional experience with evidence of supervision of projects (teaching and/or research) as the leading promotor/PI (Principal Investigator), including academic Thesis (PhD), Dissertations (Master) or end-course Monographies (Bachelor). Tracking in this main research field will be highly valued;
A strong scientific production involving (i) the publication of articles in indexed scientific journals in Q1/Q2 quartiles, (ii) oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences - acting as invited keynote speaker and/or moderator in international events will be highly valued, (iii) transfer of knowledge and (iv) any other evidences of global scientific recognition;
Evidenced capacity of funding attractiveness from extramural sources;
Coordination or participation as a member of the staff in scientific initiatives, at all levels from academia to society in related areas.
B – Pedagogic Capacity:
To show clear evidence of pedagogical experience in teaching areas related with the current position expertise, at all levels (professional, academic, advanced). Coordination tasks, even if included in coordination commissions will be highly appreciated;
Experience in promoting/providing training in pedagogical innovation, encompassing activities such as advanced courses, organizing study visits, creating or redesigning curricular units, and developing new laboratory protocols with the integration of new technologies. Tracking in these areas will be highly valued;
Leading or being part of initiatives with pedagogical character/purposes at national and/or international levels, within local or international organizations.
C - Competences in other activities relevant to the mission of the higher education institution
Be involved in academic management board positions;
Be involved in scientific management board positions;
Participation in international project evaluation juries in other countries different from its own origin;
Contributing as an associate editor for at least two Q1 journals, in the area of open call.

Selection Process
Selection method
The applications admitted to the competition will be assessed taking into account the quality, timeliness and relevance of the scientific curriculum (scientific output and research experience suited to the strategic objectives of CBIOS) and the creation of new knowledge as related to the scientific communities of CBIOS as well as the professional curriculum of the applicants, in addition to the level of adequacy to the proposed work plan.
The scientific career of the applicant, giving particular relevance to the scientific work done or published in the last 5 years in areas relating to the work plan which is the object of the competition (up to 35% of the assessment of this stage);
The professional experience of the applicant, with special emphasis on the activities in the last 5 years (up to 55% of the assessment of this stage);
Cover letter in English (10% of the evaluation), to evaluate the candidate's motivation and interest for the activities to be carried out (5% of the assessment) and English proficiency (5% evaluation);
If the jury chooses to interview the candidates, which is intended exclusively for clarification of aspects related to the results of its research (corresponding to a maximum of 10% of the total evaluation), it will be considered up to 5 candidates from those who obtained the highest classification - in any event, only evaluations that score higher than 60% will be considered;
Should it be deemed necessary, the jury can ask the testimony of the leading academics mentioned in the application.
In case of a draw, the vote of the chairman is the tiebreaker.
After the selection stages have been concluded, the selection panel will draw up, within no more than 7 workdays, a minute which will include the final decision, a ranking of the admitted applicants with their respective final scores, as well as a brief description of the recruitment process, assessment, and selection.
