NoOffer DescriptionBy order of 14/10/2024, from the President of the Board of Directors of the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), Professor Doctor Vítor Manuel de Oliveira e Vasconcelos, it was decided to open a competition for a position as AUXILIARY RESEARCHER within the institution Management - Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research – financed by FCT, I.P. Foundation for Science and Technology, to carry out scientific research activities in the area of Ecology of Migratory Species, under permanent employment contract under the Labor Code.The researcher should be focusing on the ecology of migratory species (preferably data-poor species or species of conservation interest) emphasizing the effects of anthropogenic factors modulating life history (LH) strategies and habitat connectivity.The research program will rely on the use of:Ecological tracers to investigate migration patterns and habitat use,Physiological and molecular tools to identify the main mechanisms involved in LH plasticity,Ecological networks characterization and modeling to understand the impacts of climate change on habitat connectivity,Ecological modeling to predict the consequences of different LHs.6. Functional content: carry out, on a regular basis, research and development activities and all other scientific and technical activities within the institution's mission and also:Participate in the design of research and development programs and their translation into projects;Coordinate and guide the execution of research and development projects;Develop training actions within the scope of scientific research and development methodology;Monitor the research work carried out by fellows, research interns and research assistants and participate in their training;Guide and participate in the institution's training programs.7. National, foreign and stateless candidates who hold a doctorate degree in Ecology, Marine and Environmental Sciences or related areas, who hold a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile suitable for the activity to be developed, namely technical-scientific knowledge in the ecology of migratory species. If the doctorate was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16-8, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the date of signing the contract.8. The tender admission requirements are those defined in the previous point. The specific admission requirements for the competition are as described below. Candidates must have previous skills and experience in:Confirmed experience in migratory species ecology with a focus on using ecological tracers (e.g., otolith chemistry, stable isotopes) to investigate fish habitat use and movements, and interspecific interactions.A proven track record on data-poor migratory species or species of conservation interest will be highly valued.Capability of designing and implementing sampling programs oriented to migratory species, and experience in using multiple gears and other sampling methods of migratory fish across aquatic habitats (rivers, estuaries, and sea);Experience with different statistical methods, time series analysis, and ecological modelling.Knowledge of histology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques is also essential.Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate involvement with student mentoring, science dissemination and outreach.9. In accordance with article 10 of the ECI, the selection takes place through the assessment of the candidates' curriculum vitae and scientific work.9.1 In the evaluation, the quality of the candidates' scientific and technical work, professional experience, professional training, contributions to scientific-oriented activities, participation in management bodies and provision of service to the community are mandatory.9.2 The evaluation of the scientific and curricular path focuses on relevance, quality and timeliness, associated with the scientific area of the competition:Scientific, technological, cultural or artistic production in the last five years considered most relevant to the competition;Applied or practice-based research activities developed in the last five years and considered to have the greatest impact on the competition;Extension and knowledge dissemination activities developed over the last five years, particularly in the context of promoting culture and scientific practices, considered to be of greatest relevance to the competition;Management activities of science, technology and innovation programs, or experience in observing and monitoring the scientific and technological system or higher education, in Portugal or abroad.12. For consideration of what is mentioned in the previous paragraph, it can be complemented by an interview with all candidates, whenever the jury of the respective competition so decides.
