Offer Description 1. By order of 14/10/2024, from the President of the Board of Directors of CIIMAR, it was decided to open a competition for a position as AUXILIARY RESEARCHER within the institution Management - CIIMAR, financed by FCT, I.P. Foundation for Science and Technology, to carry out scientific research activities in the area of Microalgae and Cyanobacteria Biology, under a permanent employment contract under the Labor Code.
The hiring for the role aims to develop studies in accordance with the scientific area, as well as guidance activities for doctoral students, master's students and research fellows, and other activities included in the CIIMAR Strategic Plan.
The current position involves research into the biology of microalgae and cyanobacteria, particularly with regard to chemical-ecological aspects, interactions and ecotoxicology. The objective is to use research results in these areas to develop biotechnological applications based on chemical-ecological interactions through secondary metabolites produced by microalgae and cyanobacteria.
The research will be based mainly on experimental laboratory work, designed and analyzed using robust statistical tools. A considerable part of the experimental research will be carried out in collaboration with molecular biologists and biochemists in the field of transcriptomics and proteomics.
Experience with bioinformatics tools for analyzing data sets generated in these areas of research is required. The candidate may also be involved in university teaching and postgraduate training activities.
Requirements National, foreign and stateless candidates who hold a doctorate degree in Biology, Ecology, or related areas, with a scientific and professional curriculum suitable for the activity to be developed, namely technical-scientific knowledge in the biology of microalgae and cyanobacteria.
The specific admission requirements for the competition include:
marine and freshwater biology and ecology;
chemical interactions of microalgae and cyanobacteria;
basic biology, biochemistry, ecology, and ecotoxicology of microalgae and cyanobacteria;
biotechnological applications, particularly in the context of microalgae bioreactors;
statistical methods and programming as well as bioinformatics skills;
involvement in postgraduate training activities is also highly valued.
