Education Level: PhD or equivalent
General requirements:
Any national, foreign, and stateless candidate(s) holding a PhD degree in Engineering and Technology Sciences, Biotechnology.
PhD, completed at least 10 years before the application;
Research experience in process technologies for the extraction and formulation of natural bioactive compounds and bioactivity studies;
Demonstrated scientific maturity, in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals (reporting original work), in the areas described above;
Demonstrated ability to obtain independent funding in public and/or private scientific funding programmes;
Experience in the supervision of master's and/or doctoral students;
Experience in establishing scientific collaborations with public and private institutions;
Experience in coordinating scientific platforms, including technology transfer, is desirable;
Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Fluency in English (oral and written).
Specific Requirements:
Experience in the following research areas:
Design of green extraction and purification processes for the recovery of bioactive compounds from natural sources, including agrifood industry residues;
Evaluation of bioactivity of natural compounds using cell-based assays (e.g. anticancer and anti-inflammatory effect);
Integration of cell-based assays with analytical tools to unveil the mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds in health;
Design of human intervention studies to evaluate the bioavailability and bioactivity of bioactive compounds present in foods and nutraceuticals;
Contract category and applicable legislation:
A work contract will be established under the terms of the Portuguese Labour Code, for individuals holding a Doctoral Degree, corresponding to Level 220 of the Carreira de Investigação Científica according to Dec. Regulamental nº 11-A/2017, 29 December.

Selection: The selection of candidates will be based on curriculum assessment in agreement with the requirements stated in the present announcement, and interviews of the 2 (two) best candidates. The final classification will be calculated based on 90% CV assessment and 10% interview.
