Come join us!Job DescriptionThe 2nd Engineer reports to the 1st Engineer/Chief Engineer.AuthorityTo execute engine room watches at sea and in port as assigned by the Chief Engineer, and to assist the First Engineer with all tasks related to machinery operation, maintenance, and daily routines.Functions and ResponsibilityThe Second Engineer functions and responsibility shall include, but not be limited to:Perform duties as delegated by The Chief Engineer and First Engineer.Act as Engineer Watch Officer in the engine control room overseeing the operation, maintenance and engine ratings.Be familiar and proficient in maintenance and repairs of the main and auxiliary engines, their systems and equipment, ship's plants for fresh and sea water, boiler plant and related systems and equipment, emergency generators and related systems, steering gear, stabilizers, propeller shafts, stern tubes, bow thrusters, HVAC and pneumatic valves.Ensure that adequate rounds of the machinery and steering gear spaces are made for detecting and reporting equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, performing or directing routine adjustments, required upkeep and any other necessary tasks.Read and understand the Chief Engineer's standing orders.Familiarize himself/herself with regulations and safe working procedures pertaining to tasks assigned to him/her, or to be executed under his/her responsibility.Be responsible for all lube oil stocks and transfers and liaise with the Chief Engineer for ordering in a timely manner.Ensure that minimum stock of spare parts for areas under his/her responsibility are kept in stock at all times. Request for parts to be submitted to the Chief Engineer.Ensure that critical or special work is not undertaken without a Work Permit signed by delegated Engine Officer.Always use the correct PPE equipment provided.Ensure that bilges are dry at all times and all bilge pumping operations are correctly logged in the oil record book.Surveillance of equipment and installations specifically assigned to him, as follows:Sludge and dirty oil systems.Maintenance of lifeboat and tender boat engines.Maintain and monitor all purifier equipment including heaters.Maintain and repair all fuel oil transfer/ booster pumps and systems including heaters.Maintain and repair lube oil transfer pumps and systems.Maintain and repair all bilge, ballast and fuel oil valves incl. remote control and indication. Monitor lube oil consumption of main and aux. engines.Monitor condition of lube oil in main and aux. engines.QualificationsCertificate of Competence & endorsementBasic Safety that includes:Personal survival techniquesPersonal safety and social responsibilitiesElementary first aidFire prevention and fire fightingMedical First AidProficiency in survival craft/rescue boatsAdvanced fire-fightingCrowd managementISPS Security AwarenessPrevious experience in passenger shipsExcellent command of the English language*Marlins Cert. English for Seafarers
