2 Postdoctoral Fellows at Tissue Immunity Lab
Localização: Champalimaud Centre for The Unknown
Entidade Empregadora: Champalimaud Foundation
Regime: Tempo Inteiro
Posição: Pós-Doutoramento
Início da Candidatura: 11 Jul. 2024
Champalimaud Foundation (Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for 2 Postdocs to join our team at the Champalimaud Research Program.
The position
The Postdocs will work on a project in the research group of Dr. Klaas van Gisbergen in the Tissue Immunity Lab at the Champalimaud Foundation. The aim of the project is to understand how T cells differentiate in response to local cues in solid tumors to ultimately employ this knowledge for the development of immunotherapy for improved control of cancer. The postdocs will be working on independent, but related research projects and tasks will include the planning and design of experiments, supervision of co-workers, writing research manuscripts and presentation of the data at national and international conferences.
The project
This project has two separate research lines to improve our understanding of how T cells provide immune defense against cancer. 1. We aim to define the developmental paths of T cells during tumor outgrowth to understand where, when and how tumor-specific T cells differentiate into distinct lineages. Our analysis will identify how the potential of T cell precursors can be exploited in cancer immunotherapy to target tumor growth. 2. We will determine which environmental cues are important to instruct the differentiation and maintenance of T cell subsets in solid tumors. Understanding of these instructive cues will be important to steer T cell development for immunotherapeutic purposes. The research will be performed using state-of-the-art techniques in in vivo models, flow cytometry and transcriptional profiling.
The lab
The lab of Tissue Immunity focuses on the development of memory CD8 T cells in infection and tumor settings and the transcriptional and molecular pathways underlying CD8 T cell differentiation. The eventual goal is to improve employment of CD8 T cells for the purpose of cancer immunotherapy. The lab is embedded in the department of Cancer and Physiology at the Champalimaud Foundation that provides a lively, internationally oriented, scientific environment with excellent facilities. The research is strongly multidisciplinary and includes neuroscience, tumor biology and tumor immunology making use of state-of-the-art techniques in in vivo models, molecular biology, flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
Your profile
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues with a PhD in Biology / Biomedical Sciences, who are highly motivated and have a proven interest in immunology and oncology. The candidates are expected to take initiative and perform well in a team and preferably have hands-on experience with animal experimentation and multi-color flow cytometry and/or transcription profiling and bioinformatics analysis. The ability to present and publish the findings of the research is essential.
Department: Cancer and Physiology, Tissue Immunity (van Gisbergen) Lab
