1.Scientific field: Biomedical Engineering.
2. Admission Requirements: The candidates to the scientific research fellowship should preferably fulfil the following requirements:
Masters in biomedical Engineering;
Experience in the area of e-textiles, characterization tests for textiles and bioinstrumentation.
Good domain of the English language.
Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees and diplomas, or their respective recognition when they have been awarded by foreign higher education institutions, may be waived at the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, with verification of such condition only in the stage of contracting the fellowship. This statement must attest facts that occurred on a date prior to the application. In situations of divergence between the information contained in the declaration and the documentation submitted for the purpose of contracting a grant, only the information contained in the latter will be considered. If it is verified that the documents proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, or the respective recognition under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, do not correspond to the classifications awarded in the evaluation of the academic path and may, consequently, changing the candidate's ranking, the fellowship contracting will not be effected.
On the date of the respective hiring, candidates must prove that they are enrolled in a course conferring or not conferring an academic degree, integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, in the area or area related to that requested in the notice (e.g. : postgraduate studies, advanced studies, specialized training).
3. Work Plan :
The main goal of this work plan is the development of a wearable system for sEMG monitoring. The work will consist of: (i) Survey of the requirements and design of the textile (ii) development of the sEMG acquisition electronics and respective software (iii) testing and validation of the developed prototype (v) critical analysis of the results. Finally, the grantee can contribute to the preparation of a preliminary version of a scientific article, as well as a report with the results obtained.
4. Applicable legislation and regulation: Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August (Statute of Scientific Research Fellows), amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, with the updates introduced by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, Law No. 12/2013 of January 29, Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28; Regulation of Research Grants of FCT, IP, approved by Regulation No. 234/2012 of June 25, 2012, amended and republished by Regulation No. 326/2013 of July 27, 2013 and amended by Regulation No. 339/2015 of 17th of June 2015, by Regulation No. 137-A/2018 of February 27, 2018 and Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, 2019.
5. Workplace and Scientific Orientation: The workplan will be carried out in the Centre for Microelectromechanical Systems (CMEMS-UMinho), in the Azurém Campus - Guimarães, under the scientific supervision of the Professor Cristina Manuela Peixoto dos Santos .
6. Duration of the Fellowship: The fellowship will last for 3 (three) months, starting in August 1 st , 2024, on an exclusive basis, according to the regulation of advanced training in Human Resources of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The fellowship contract may eventually be renewed up to a limit of 6 months.
8. Evaluation and selection criteria and procedures: The selection methodology will follow the following criteria:
Academic path (considering the classifications of academic degrees), with a weighting of 40%;
Personal curriculum (considering professional and scientific background), with a weighting of 50%
Motivation letter, with a weighting of 10%.
The final classification of the applicant's merit with the achieved through the following formula:

9. Composition of the Selection Jury: The selection panel is composed by the following elements, Chairman: Doctor Graça Maria Henriques Minas (Associate Professor with habilitation from University of Minho), Effective members: Doctor Luís Miguel Valente Gonçalves (Professor Associate Professor of University of Minho) and Doctor Nuno Joana Sofia Campos Figueiredo (Doctorate Researcher from Centro de Microssistemas Eletromecânicos of University of Minho) and Paula Dias, Projects Manager. Substitute Member: Doctor José Augusto Afonso (Auxiliar Professor from industrial Electronics Department of University of Minho) and Alexandre Manuel Teixeira Barros Ferreira Silva (Auxiliar Professor from industrial Electronics Department of University of Minho).
The first effective member will substitute the President of the selection panel in case of impediment, being nominate the first substitute member in the place of the first effective member.
10. Form of advertising/notification of results: The results of the evaluation will be publicized through the ranking and selection minutes, attached to the notification sent to candidates via e-mail.
11. Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The call for applications is open from21-06-2024 a 09-07-2024.
Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by sending the following documents: curriculum vitae, Motivation Letter, Diplomas or certificate of qualifications and other evidence considered relevant.
The researcher responsible for the project reserves the right not to award the Scientific Research Fellowship in competition depending on the result of the evaluation of the applications and its suitability for the project's objectives.
