A call is open to attribute 1 research fellowship (RF) to collaborate in the project Diamond Photonics Platforms for Synaptic Connectivity Assessment in Healthy and Parkinson Disease Neuronal Models (LCF/PR/HP20/52300001), in the following conditions:
1. Research Area: Biomedicine, Neuroscience
2. Funding Source: la Caixa Foundation and Foundation for Science and Technology I.P. (FCT, I.P.), through national funds.
3. Admission requirements: Master's Degree in the area of Life Sciences, namely Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine or related areas with a minimum grade of 15 (out of 20) [(BSc grade + MSc grade)/2]. Candidates must have good knowledge of English and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals an adequate profile for the work to be developed. Preference is given to candidates with laboratory experience, namely in neuronal cell culture, fluorescence microscopy and immunocytochemistry. Experience in calcium imaging, electrophysiology and multi-electrode arrays will be particularly valued. Candidates must have autonomy in laboratory work and data analysis, good communication skills and writing in English. Candidates must be motivated to work in an international environment as well as in a possible future application to obtain the degree of Doctor in Biomedicine.
The enrollment proof must be delivered until the contract is signed, and the candidate may add a declaration of honor stating that he/she fulfills the requirements for enrollment in integrated masters, masters or doctorate or in a non-degree course.
If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, this has to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution , pursuant to article 25th of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, from August 16th.
4. Selection method: Eligible Candidates must comply with the provisions of the Statute of the Research Fellowship, in the wording given by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, from August 28th. The RF(s) awarded to graduates or masters who are enrolled in courses that do not lead to an academic degree can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with the conclusion of the fellowship contract, a period accumulated of two years in this type of fellowship.
5. Workplan: The aim of this project is to use nanodiamonds in the detection of 2D neuronal activity, signaling and neuronal connectivity to understand the core processes of brain functioning. The work to be carried out by the grantee includes the use of techniques such as electrophysiology, cell biology, neuronal cell cultures, fluorescence microscopy, data treatment and analysis; preparing and writing reports, publications and other documents in Portuguese and English.
6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow, Regulation No. 950/2019, and Decree-Law No. 66/2018.
7. Place of work: The work will be carried out at the Institute for Biomedicine / Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Ramiro de Almeida.
9. Monthly allowance: The amount of the fellowship corresponds to €1.259,64, according to the table of monthly maintenance allowances. The fellowship holder may also be reimbursed the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of joining this scheme.
10. Selection methods: The selection methods will focus on curriculum assessment, with special emphasis on academic qualifications, training and professional experience. If necessary, an interview will be scheduled, where the 3 best candidates will be selected.
11. Composition of the Selection Jury: President: Ramiro Daniel Carvalho de Almeida, Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro. Effective members: Miguel Santos Pais Vieira and Sandrina Nóbrega Pereira. Substitute members: Bruno Miguel Rodrigues das Neves and Bruno Miguel Bernardes de Jesus.
