This is an exciting time within Hiscox as the organisation is currently undertaking several large transformation projects. This role is within the Re & ILS business unit, which is initiating a programme to integrate, align and re-platform its modelling, pricing and portfolio optimisation systems. The primary focus for this role is to be a key and influential member of our Re & ILS Software Engineering with a focus on UI/ UX design, offering dedicated support to our various Innovation squads as we create new "Cloud First" solutions to add value to the business.
We are looking for a strong UI engineer with expertise in React, Typescript and CSS Framework following Agile methodologies.
As a UI engineer, you will play a key role in the development and enhancement of our web applications. You will be responsible for translating business requirements and design concepts into high-quality, responsive, and scalable user interfaces. Working closely with backend engineers, data engineers, and quality engineers in an autonomous squad, you will ensure that our product delivers according to the Product Owner's vision efficiently and securely. This will be done in an Agile environment and as such there are key scrum ceremonies to attend such as daily stand up but the squad is responsible for the timing of these and the flexibility of the hours they work in a day. Coupled with Hiscox Hybrid working style between home and office, this should mean that dentist appointments and school runs are made easier.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain web applications: Build responsive and high-performance user interfaces using React.js with Typescript.Collaborate within a cross-functional team: Work closely with UI/UX designers/developers, backend engineers, quality engineers, and product owners to implement new features and improve existing ones.Write clean, maintainable, and secure code: Ensure code quality and security through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.Participate in Agile development: Contribute to sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives within a Scrum framework.Document technical solutions: Maintain clear and concise documentation for code, architecture, and technical processes.Stay updated with industry trends: Continuously learn and apply new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance development efficiency and product quality.Participate in research: Work individually or with other engineers in creation of high-resolution prototypes and onboarding new technology.Knowledge sharing: Support engineers with your expertise and opinions within your squad to drive forward delivery and mentor junior team members.Minimum Requirements: Proven commercial experience as a Frontend engineer using React.js with Typescript.Experience working with business users and/or Product Owners to turn business requirements into technical requirements.Strong commercial experience of responsive design principles.Experience of calling RESTful APIs and integrating with backend services.Experience of working with 3rd-party libraries including controls.Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, and with common branching strategies.Advantageous: Experience with KendoReact.Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.Experience in Finance, Insurance and/or Reinsurance.This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work-life balance.
