Opening of an international selection procedure for the recruitment of 1 Assistant Researcher
Under the terms of Order no. 181/2023, of 04 January, by delegation of powers, the Director of the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon, Prof. Dr José Júlio Alves Alferes, hereby announces that, by order of 30/10/2024, an international call for tenders, with internal reference "Inv.Aux.25-DCEA" , is open for a period of 15 days from the date of publication of this Notice in the Diário da República, for the recruitment of 1 Assistant Researcher in the scientific area of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, sub-area Water Management, with emphasis on Mathematical Modelling of Water Quality , on an open-ended employment contract, within the scope of the project DCEA.PS.478.EDP.PC - 0302103 financed by Energias de Portugal S.A.
I - Workplace
The place of work will be at the premises of the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University, located on the Caparica Campus, at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences - MARE.
The employee will make all the journeys, in Portugal or abroad, inherent to their duties or necessary to carry out their activity.
II - Activities and function
The successful candidate will work as an Assistant Researcher and will support the coordination of projects, process data, prepare reports, and collaborate in the preparation of scientific articles for publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
IV - Modality and duration
The opening of this tender procedure is intended for the selection of a doctoral candidate to carry out scientific research activities under an uncertain fixed-term employment contract, lasting for the time necessary to carry out the project, 12 months, or for as long as the respective justification persists, but may not exceed the maximum limit of 6 years.
V - Candidates Admission Criteria
National, foreign, and stateless candidates who hold a doctoral degree in the scientific area of the Environment and Sustainability may apply.
Relevant scientific curriculum in the area of the call, with proven experience in:
a) Scientific area of water quality modelling of lake systems, particularly with the CE-QUAL-W2 model;
b) Development of numerical models for simulating the thermal regime of lake systems;
c) Research into the effects of climate change on freshwater quality;
d) Application of mathematical algorithms based on AI (Machine Learning) for hydrological and physical-chemical process simulations;
e) Modelling diffuse pollution from agricultural and forestry areas;
f) Simulating heavy metals and organic compounds in lake systems;
g) Use of climate reanalyses (e.g., ERA5-Land);
h) Management of hydrometric networks and processing of hydrological data.
3. Experience in Data Science and programming languages Python and R.
4. Experience in hydrology and water resources management, particularly in shared river basins.
VII - Presentation of the application

X - Reasons for admission and exclusion
Grounds for exclusion include failure to meet requirements or submit required documents.
XI - Sorting and voting methodology
The jury will evaluate candidates based on scientific and technological production, applied research activities, knowledge dissemination activities, and program management activities.
XII - Notifications and Hearing of Interested Parties
Notifications will be made by email, and the tender dossier may be consulted by candidates at the Human Resources Division of FCT NOVA.
XV. Data Protection
In accordance with the RGPD - General Data Protection Regulation, the data collected will be processed exclusively for the application processing.
